Artist Statement:
When I work on my watercolor paintings, I often think of the process as composing haiku poems. Haiku is a Japanese short form poetry that consists of three lines with only 17 syllables. Within the limited space of expression, it often focuses on images from nature emphasizing simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression. Through quick and improvised brush strokes and mark-makings I attempt to capture the fleeting emotions and thoughts in my watercolor paintings.
